Sarv Pitra Moksha Amavas Shraddh Puja is performed if someone is not able to perform Shraddha on all tithi or dates of Pitra Paksha. The single Shraddha on this day is enough to appease and pacify all the deceased souls in the family.
The Amavas Shraddha Puja can also be done if the death anniversary of the Pitras is not known or forgotten. Shradh is a ritual that is performed by children or relatives of dead ancestors for the peace of the departed soul.
Who are Pitras?
Pitras are the ancestors who had lived before us and our forefathers. Pitras have been described in many Hindu scriptures. Pitras are equivalent to gods. Our body has come into existence because of our ancestors. Pitra Dosha occurs when our ancestors and departed forefathers' souls do not get peace.
Our ancestors are very near and dear to us as our lives rest firmly on the foundation of their sacrifice. Pitru Paksha is the memorable time of the year when Hindus pay respect to their predecessors by conducting a few rituals and prohibiting them from doing certain things.
It is acknowledged that during Bhadrapada Maas, for 16 days from Purnima to Amavasya, the souls of our dead ancestors come to earth in the form of energies. These energies may influence our lives according to their wishes.
Pitru Paksha is the most auspicious time concerning our dead ancestors. Keeping them happy by way of various good deeds is one of the practices of attaining Mukti or salvation.
How Pitra Dosha Influences our lives
There are three types of influence by which Pitras impact our lives, which are Pitri Rin, Pitri Shraap, and Pitri Dosha. Pitru Dosh occurs if any ancestors up to the 7th generation on the father’s side and up to the 4th generation on the mother’s side have expired at an early age or have had an unnatural death.
Pitra Dosha can cause severe and unknown problems in the life of family members.
Pitra Dosha can cause problems like family disputes, health issues, inability to get married, childlessness, mentally or physically retarded children, the demise of children at an early age, repeated miscarriages, suicidal tendencies, uncontrollable pain persisting even after medication, depression, and addictions.
During this period, food, clothes, and donations are offered to Brahmin priests who help to perform Shradh rituals. Animals like cows, dogs, and crows are fed. In the Hindu religion, Brahmins are considered being the primary servants of God, and they are the link between the common man and the supreme power.
